Ladakh Launches High-Altitude Eco-Tourism Initiative with Wildlife Safaris

Ladakh has launched India's first high-altitude wildlife safari initiative, which received approval from the Lieutenant Governor. The plan involves introducing guided jeep safaris in various wildlife-rich areas, including Hemis national park, Changthang, and Karakoram wildlife sanctuaries. These areas also include Nubra, Zanskar, Sham, Kargil, and Drass, known for snow leopard sightings and birdlife.

The initiative aims to promote sustainable eco-tourism while ensuring local communities are active partners in both wildlife conservation and economic development. The guided safaris are modeled on those found in national parks like Kaziranga and Ranthambore, with the forest department identifying specific routes.
