Land Purchased in Gilan Province for North–South Corridor Railway Development
What happened
Land acquisition has taken place in Gilan Province for the development of the North–South International Transport Corridor. Specifically, 540 hectares of land have been purchased from residents in the province for the Rasht–Astara railway line, which is 162 kilometers long. The process of acquiring land along the planned route has accelerated recently, with 140–145 kilometers acquired in the last two years alone.

Why it matters
The North–South International Transport Corridor was established under an intergovernmental agreement signed on September 12, 2000, between Russia, Iran, and India. The construction of the line is contingent upon the completion of legal procedures and approval from the Supreme National Security Council and relevant authorities in Russia.
