What happened
Leevin Camacho was alerted to severe water contamination in his village, Yigo, on Guam. A flyer from the local water authority warned of a cancer risk due to the presence of dieldrin, a persistent organochlorine insecticide banned in the United States in 1987. The contamination has been present in the community's water since at least 2008. The U.S. Air Force base next to the well serving the village has been under investigation regarding 'very high levels' of the pesticide since 1993.
