Lidl to construct new housing and retail complex on Sylt island

Lidl is constructing a major new complex on a 16,000-square-metre site in Sylt. The project involves building a state-of-the-art discount store on the ground floor, with 15 new flats located directly above. These homes, ranging from 44 to 78 square metres, are designed for permanent residence and are intended to provide affordable housing for commuters. The existing Lidl building will be retained and merged into a local services centre, which will house a pharmacy, a health and beauty store, and regional businesses.

The development is intended to alleviate acute housing shortages on the island. The project combines modern retail and residential space, a move praised by Mayor Tina Haltermann as a pioneering step in combining retail and residential solutions.
