University Heights Sign Restored After Months of Outages

The lights on the University Heights sign are back on after more than six months of outages, following a neon replacement that occurred before September 9th. The repair cost approximately $24,000, which the city was able to fund. Marc Johnson, president of the University Heights Community Association, noted that the sign still requires a major facelift due to rust, fading, and peeling decals. The Association launched a fundraiser in late August, which received a $25,000 matching donation from a generous resident.

The successful small-scale fundraising demonstrates community buy-in for the landmark's preservation. The full refurbishment of the sign is estimated to cost $80,000, indicating ongoing work needed to restore the structure.
