Subang Jaya Council Initiates Revitalization Study for SS15 Commercial District

Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has begun a study into the SS15 commercial area in Subang Jaya, Selangor. The area functions as a vital neighborhood hub and a food and beverage (F&B) hotspot, hosting 513 shophouse units where F&B comprises over a third of licensed businesses. However, the council found that the public spaces are primarily transit corridors rather than places for rest or social interaction. The study, commissioned by MBSJ and conducted with Think City, involved surveying 1,577 people and analyzing local trends.

The findings indicate that respondents cited traffic and parking as their top daily concern, with 96% of residents relying on private vehicles. Land use analysis showed that 44% of the 27.5ha area is dedicated to transport infrastructure. The council is engaged in a strategic pivot to address these issues and improve the business district's potential.
