Merck to Present Remigromig Clinical Trial Results at AAO Meeting

Merck announced that it will present full one-year results for Remigromig at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) meeting. The investigational therapy, also known as MK-3000 and formerly EYE103, was assessed in the pivotal Phase 2b/3 BRUNELLO trial of 984 patients with diabetic macular edema. According to a press release, Remigromig was found to be noninferior to ranibizumab at 52 weeks in the study. However, the company noted that those who received Remigromig experienced higher rates of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, vitreous hemorrhage, and treatment discontinuations due to adverse events compared with ranibizumab.

The presentation details the safety and efficacy profile of the new drug mechanism. The trial evaluated low-dose and high-dose remigromig (0.5 mg and 0.8 mg, respectively) against an active control (ranibizumab 0.5 mg). The results are significant for the potential market entry of the therapy.
