Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Meta and EssilorLuxottica Over AI Glasses Privacy

A consolidated class action complaint, titled In re Meta AI Glasses Litigation, has been filed in San Francisco. The lawsuit names Meta Platforms and Luxottica of America, the U.S. arm of EssilorLuxottica, as defendants. The complaint alleges that the company's AI-enabled Ray-Ban and Oakley glasses recorded users and bystanders, sometimes after being accidentally switched on. The allegations further claim that this footage was sent to Meta's servers and overseas contractors for review and labeling to train the company's AI. Meta disputes these allegations.

The lawsuit includes over 70 named plaintiffs, who seek to represent not only buyers and users of the glasses but also bystanders recorded by the devices. The complaint details alleged recordings made in private locations such as bathrooms, bedrooms, and doctors' offices. The allegations challenge the data collection and handling practices of the AI system.
