Bridge of the Americas Repairs Pending Fourth Bridge Operation

The Minister of Public Works explained that the structure of the Bridge of the Americas remains sound, though the concrete road surface has exceeded its lifespan and requires extensive repairs. The complete repair work is dependent on the Fourth Bridge becoming operational, as closing the roadway, which handles approximately 60,000 vehicles daily, would cause significant disruption. Phase one of the repair program, which involves cleaning and painting areas affected by a fire on April 6, is expected to go out to tender in the coming weeks.

The bridge is a major transportation artery, and the required multi-stage repair program involves significant investment, with $111.9 Million already invested in maintenance and rehabilitation over 20 years. The need for extensive repairs and the dependency on other infrastructure projects could affect regional logistics and transportation costs.
