AI-Enabled BMS Research Shows Significant Energy and Cost Savings in Buildings
What happened
New research published by Schneider Electric found that using an AI-enabled building management system (BMS) can reduce whole-building energy consumption by up to 22% compared to traditional BMS. Specifically, AI management reduced HVAC energy use by between 15% and 27%, leading to annual utility savings of $13,600 to $49,300 per building at current commercial rates. The study also found that AI-driven optimization can result in additional whole-building energy savings of between 7.2% and 12.7%.

Why it matters
These efficiency gains reduce operating costs for buildings and help ease pressure on the wider electric grid. The research highlights that buildings account for approximately 37% of global energy-related carbon emissions, making these optimizations relevant to climate goals.
Improving is expanding its global delivery model to include clients in North America, South America, and India.
