Management Plan Approved for Dal Lake; Sewage Treatment Underway

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change approved a management plan for Dal Lake. To address untreated wastewater, the Jammu and Kashmir Government is constructing a 30 million litres per day sewage treatment plant at Gupt Ganga. This project, along with detention ponds and 100 biodigesters, aims to reduce domestic wastewater entering the lake.

The plan addresses pollution from areas outside the sewerage network, which currently discharge domestic wastewater into the lake's inflow channels. The construction of the sewage treatment plant and associated infrastructure is intended to improve urban environmental quality and manage water resources in Srinagar.
