Indian Railways partners with IIT Kharagpur to upskill technical staff

Indian Railways has partnered with IIT Kharagpur through a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to upgrade the technical skills of its officials in advanced rolling stock technologies. The collaboration focuses on specialized residential training programs covering electrical safety, traction systems used in Vande Bharat trains, and three-phase Mainline Electric Multiple Units. The curriculum includes modules on electrical condition monitoring, reliability engineering, and various braking systems.

The initiative combines the operational requirements of Indian Railways with the academic and research expertise of IIT Kharagpur. This upskilling effort aims to ensure that the workforce gains practical understanding of modern train technologies, which are crucial for the continued operation of the national railway system.
