MSD Sewer Replacement Project Impacts Proposed Greenway Expansion in Webster Groves

Great Rivers Greenway is planning a two-phase expansion of the Shady Creek Greenway in Webster Groves. This expansion is linked to the Metropolitan Sewer District’s sewer replacement along Kirkham Avenue and Brentwood Boulevard, which aims to reduce basement backups and sewer overflows after heavy rain. As part of the replacement, MSD will remove a tree-lined median to add a 0.36-mile paved shared-use path on Kirkham Avenue. Construction for the greenway is anticipated to begin in 2027.

The project involves major infrastructure work in the area. The expansion of the greenway utilizes undeveloped land for recreation and conservation purposes. The plan includes a paved shared-use path with amenities near the Shady Creek Nature Sanctuary.

MSD manages the sewer system in the Cincinnati area.
