Ofsted rates Slough Borough Council children's services inadequate, mandates new…
What happened
Ofsted rated children’s services at Slough Borough Council as ‘inadequate’ in July. Following the report, Labour MP Jim McMahon announced that a commissioner for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and children’s services will be appointed to the council. Councillor Puja Bedi described the findings as ‘serious and not acceptable’.

Why it matters
The rating increases governance scrutiny and financial pressure on the city council. Debbie Jones, who serves as the council’s director of children’s services, stated that the required improvement plan is a three to five-year journey.
Ofsted inspected the city council's children's services, which have been under Government intervention since 2014.
