DOST Launches ₱3.87-Million Water and Disaster Resilience Project in Aurora

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) partnered with a local government unit to implement a science and technology project valued at ₱3.87 million in coastal barangays of San Luis, Aurora. The initiative falls under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program. The project includes deploying the DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute SafeWatRS, a compact, solar-powered mobile water treatment system capable of producing up to 2,000 liters of potable water in nine hours. Furthermore, the project establishes a Central Command Station and Barangay Remote Stations equipped with a siren system for emergency advisories.

The project aims to secure alternative water sources for residents in the event of storms or other hazards. The siren system allows the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to activate warnings and emergency advisories to residents facing threats such as typhoons.
