Penobscot County leaders spent over $350,000 on credit cards, including Amazon purchases

Financial records obtained by the Bangor Daily News through a Freedom of Access Act request show that Penobscot County leaders spent more than $350,000 on county-issued credit cards in 2025. This spending included over $53,000 on Amazon purchases, as well as more than $42,000 for travel and $18,000 for food and drinks. The majority of these purchases were paid for using property tax revenue.

The spending occurred during a period when a multimillion-dollar financial crisis caused by mismanagement emerged in Penobscot County. The records highlight a lack of spending policies among county officials even as the county faced a budget deficit.
