Poland Puts FA-50 Light Combat Aircraft into Operational Service
What happened
Poland has brought into operational service a new fleet of Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) FA-50 light combat aircraft. The FA-50GFs entered service on October 2, 2026, as part of the country’s national air defense system. The aircraft were purchased from KAI to serve as 'Gap Filler' units, compensating for the MiG-29 transfers to Ukraine. Although the initial purchase did not include armament, Poland has since acquired Raytheon AIM-9 Sidewinders and 20-mm guns for the fleet.

Why it matters
The acquisition of the FA-50s was part of a larger order for 48 aircraft. The introduction of the FA-50GFs reinforces Poland's eastern border defense strategy. The successful deployment validates the product line of KAI in international defense procurement.
