KwaZulu-Natal Warns of Consequences for Municipal Financial Non-Compliance
What happened
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs issued a warning regarding harsh consequences for non-compliance with the financial health requirements of local government institutions in the province. The warning was delivered during a meeting between the Provincial MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, and officials from non-performing municipalities. The department noted that three municipalities received disclaimers in the 2013/2014 reporting cycle, with Amajuba District and Jozini receiving disclaimers, and Hlabisa moving from a qualified to a disclaimer opinion.
