Northeast Storm Causes Widespread Power Outages and Service Disruptions

A severe storm impacted the US Northeast, bringing down trees, branches, and power lines from Washington to Maine. The storm caused over 400 flight cancellations and resulted in power outages affecting more than 100,000 homes and businesses nationally as of Saturday. In New York, PSEG Long Island reported that the severe weather affected 13,212 electricity customers across Long Island and the Rockaways. Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation in New York stated that crews were working to restore power to more than 19,000 homes and businesses, with efforts expected to continue into Sunday.

The weather event has caused significant infrastructure failure across multiple states, including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. The outages affect essential services, forcing voluntary evacuations in some coastal communities of New Jersey. The disruption also led to the postponement of events, such as the AC/DC concert at MetLife Stadium.
