Texas Families Relying on BNPL Services to Cover Rising Food Costs

A poll from No Kid Hungry Texas found that food cost pressures are affecting families across Texas. Advocates warn that food insecurity may worsen due to pending federal changes to food assistance programs, such as SNAP. The poll found that 40% of surveyed families are currently taking on debt to cover the cost of food. Furthermore, a significant increase in the use of Buy Now Pay Later services, including Afterpay and Klarna, was observed among those struggling with food expenses.

The organization noted that more than 80% of respondents said the cost of food is rising faster than their income. This financial strain is leading many parents to make difficult trade-offs between paying for nutritious food and essential bills, such as electricity.
