What happened
The classification of soil liquefaction risk has changed in about 17 percent of the regions surveyed in Taipei, New Taipei City, Taoyuan, Hsinchu County, and city, according to a map released by the Geological Survey and Mining Management Agency. The agency stated these changes reflect improved data and not changes in the soil itself. Specific changes include the redesignation of swathes of New Taipei City’s Banciao District to low risk, while portions of Hsinchu City’s North and Siangshan districts were redesignated as high-risk areas.
