Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding and Landslide Warnings Across Sri Lanka

Heavy rainfall has caused high water levels in the Kalu River and the Kelani River. The upper catchment areas of the Kelani River received between 100mm and 125mm of rainfall as of yesterday morning. Over 300mm of rain has fallen across the region in the past three days, prompting the extension of flood warnings for the Kuda Ganga and Gin Ganga basins by 24 hours.

Authorities have issued Red Warnings for six of the country's fourteen districts due to landslide risk. The National Building Research Organisation reported 35 minor land instability incidents during the three-day period. Authorities urged residents in high-risk areas to evacuate to safe locations.
