Free Transit Service Shut Down in Danville and Nicholasville

Bluegrass Community Action Partnership is shutting down its free deviated fixed-route public transit service in Nicholasville and Danville at the end of the day Friday. The organization stated the decision followed years of mounting financial pressure and a reduction in federal public transportation funding. The service was costing BGCAP over $330,000 per year for each route, and the organization could not absorb the losses.

Troy Roberts, executive director of BGCAP, stated that he discussed the situation with the mayors of both cities before the announcement. He added that the service could only continue if someone could secure the necessary funding to cover the annual deficit.
