Taiwanese Drone Industry Targets Annual Output Exceeding NT$50 Billion by 2030
What happened
Taiwan's drone industry output is projected to exceed NT$50 billion (US$1.58 million) annually by 2030, surpassing the initial target of NT$40 billion, according to Minister of Economic Affairs Kung Ming-hsin. The growth is attributed to the Russia's war against Ukraine, which has necessitated the use of drones as a key combat tool and altered traditional weapons production. The government hopes to raise domestic production of key drone technologies and components to 90 percent by 2030.

Why it matters
The industry currently achieves domestic production of about 70 percent of small drones, 60 percent of medium-sized drones, and 30 percent of large drones. The long-term goal is to establish complete supply chains free from Chinese components. This push allows Taiwan to capitalize on international demand for supply chains that exclude Chinese suppliers.
