What happened
Russian forces attempted to infiltrate Ukraine’s northern Sumy region through the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhhorod gas pipeline on multiple occasions in the past ten days, according to the Institute for the Study of War. Ukrainian forces intercepted the first attempt on September 12, and a second, larger platoon-sized group emerged near MalaKorchakivka, north of Sumy. In the subsequent engagement, Ukrainian troops killed 29 Russian soldiers and wounded three.

Why it matters
