Alpine Railroad Cancels Services Following Severe Flood Damage

The Whitewater Valley Railroad in Alpine, Indiana, sustained significant damage to its track and facilities due to flash flooding in August. The damage included approximately a dozen major washouts and hundreds of smaller ones, with nearly four feet of water reaching the locomotive repair and crew facilities. As a result, the railroad canceled all services for the remainder of the year.

Ryan Scott, who serves as the chairman of the board, led the response to the crisis. The railroad has received support from enthusiasts and groups like the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway and the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum to aid in recovery efforts.
