India approves higher Minimum Support Price for Rabi Oilseed Crops
What happened
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved increases in Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all mandated rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season, according to the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA). The MSP for rapeseed and mustard was raised by ₹413 per quintal to ₹6,613, while safflower saw an increase of ₹675 per quintal to ₹7,215.
Why it matters
SEA noted that improved price assurance for mustard could encourage farmers to maintain or expand cultivation and invest in better farm practices for India’s edible oil economy. However, the effectiveness of this support depends on procurement arrangements and market access.
