Page County Board Discusses Amended Solar Zoning Requirements for MidAmerican Project

The Page County Board of Supervisors is currently discussing solar zoning requirements for a project in the county. The board is considering the ratification of preliminary approval, and possible final approval, for an amended Memorandum of Understanding concerning MidAmerican's Nodaway Valley Solar Project. The MOU requires the project facility to be 50 feet from a non-participating landowner's property line and 300 feet from the nearest occupied dwelling, unless a written waiver is secured.

The proposed setbacks differ from the county's original 2024 ordinance, which allowed for a waivable setback of 2,460 feet. MidAmerican representatives stated that the proposed setbacks were based on a framework used by other counties in Iowa. Supervisor Todd Maher cast the lone dissenting vote during the discussion.
