SIA signs agreement to purchase Sustainable Aviation Fuel from Aster
What happened
Singapore Airlines signed an agreement to purchase up to 4,800 tonnes of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) from Aether Beacon over three years, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2028. This fuel is produced at Project Beacon, which is located at Aster’s refining complex on Pulau Bukom in Singapore. SIA is the first airline to purchase SAF produced using this new technology, which converts waste-derived carbon feedstocks into aviation fuel.
Why it matters
The agreement supports Singapore Airlines’ ambition to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The partnership also provides commercial validation and demand for the refining complex operated by Aster on Pulau Bukom.
KBR and Keppel are collaborating on decarbonization technologies, utilizing PureSAF technology licensed from Biofuels AB as Singapore aims to be Asia's leading SAF hub.
