Southern Railway begins ₹99.84-crore redevelopment of Kumbakonam station

Southern Railway has begun a major redevelopment project at Kumbakonam railway station, which is planned for completion by December 2027. The project, valued at ₹99.84-crore, involves constructing a new station building with a 12-metre air concourse and extending existing platforms. The work also includes yard remodelling and overhead equipment modification.

Kumbakonam is identified as one of the top revenue generating stations in the Tiruchi Railway Division. The infrastructure improvements, which include segregated arrival and departure areas and platform extensions, are intended to accommodate express trains and improve passenger movement.
