Southern Water to build 22.8km pipeline linking Winchester and Andover reservoirs
What happened
Southern Water is constructing a 22.8km pipeline to connect the Crab Wood service reservoir near Winchester with the Micheldever Road service reservoir near Andover. This infrastructure project includes upgraded pumping facilities designed to strengthen drought resilience. Construction is slated to begin in winter 2027 and is expected to last 3.5 years.
Why it matters
The pipeline will allow up to 15 million litres of water per day to move between the two locations. This capacity bolsters water supplies for the isolated Andover resource zone while reducing pressure on the River Test and River Itchen.
