Stanbic Bank PMI Signals Private Sector Stabilization in Kenya
What happened
The latest Stanbic Bank Kenya Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), compiled by S&P Global, rose to 51.3 in September from 49.7 in August, indicating a return to expansionary territory. The survey, based on responses from about 400 private-sector companies across agriculture, mining, manufacturing, construction, wholesale, retail, and services, showed new orders increased for the fourth consecutive month. Despite this headline improvement, actual business output declined for the seventh straight month.

Why it matters
The index suggests that private-sector conditions are improving due to stronger market demand, customer referrals, and marketing campaigns. However, firms cited high inflation, rising fuel and transport costs, and shortages of agricultural products as major obstacles to increasing production.
Stanbic Bank maintains a flagship branch in Nairobi, Kenya, while responding to economic challenges and market needs.
