Industry Coalition Pushes New Professional Conduct Code for Public Adjusters

A coalition of over 16 public adjusters, insurance attorneys, and industry stakeholders has introduced a new code governing the profession of public adjusters in the United States. This code establishes a uniform standard of professional conduct, drawing on the NAIC Public Adjuster Licensing Model Act and the ethical framework of the American Bar Association’s Model Rules of Professional Conduct. The coalition is currently in the process of assembling an oversight board to manage the code.

The new code introduces oversight to the public adjusting profession, clarifying the expected standards of practice. It specifically addresses issues such as public adjusters being hired but not working on a claim, or claims being passed to entities such as hedge funds.
