Storm Polo Impacts Critical Pacific Coast Ports in Mexico

Hurricane Polo intensified into a Category 5 storm while churning 210 miles south of Zihuatanejo, Mexico. The storm is impacting critical Pacific coast ports, including Manzanillo and Lázaro Cárdenas, which serve as major maritime gateways into North American markets. In response, the Navy restricted operations at the container port of Manzanillo to vessels of at least 500 gross tonnage, while smaller vessels faced restrictions at Lázaro Cárdenas.

The slow movement of the storm up the western Mexican coast is complicating global maritime supply chains. These ports connect ocean shipping with inland road and rail networks, meaning the disruptions could cause delays for imported manufacturing components and consumer goods.
