US, Denmark, and Greenland Form Strategic Security Partnership Over Rare Earth Deposits

The United States announced a strategic agreement with Denmark and Greenland regarding the island's security. The deal grants the U.S. the 'complete ability to do what is necessary in Greenland to secure and defend the security of Greenland.' Danish and Greenlandic officials confirmed that the agreement preserves Greenland’s sovereignty. The U.S. now controls the security perimeter around one of the world's largest rare earth deposits.

The agreement focuses on securing the rare earth deposits in Greenland, which include the Tanbreez project. These deposits contain heavy rare earths critical for precision electronics, magnets, and guidance systems. The partnership establishes a second source of these critical minerals under the U.S. security umbrella, diversifying global supply chains.
