DNCRP reports fines against over 9,500 businesses for consumer violations

The Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP) reported that over 9,500 businesses were fined within the last 20 months for not providing promised goods or services to customers. Tahmina Begum, an assistant director of the training section of the DNCRP, disclosed these figures during a presentation in Dhaka. Specific violations included failing to display price lists for more than 8,500 establishments and selling expired goods and medicines to over 8,400 establishments.

The fines reflect regulatory action against market non-compliance in Bangladesh. The DNCRP collected Tk 24.27 crore in penalties from 27,243 establishments in fiscal year 2025-26 alone. This enforcement activity impacts market behavior and business operating costs across the country.
