What happened
The African Wildlife Foundation and Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners signed a five-year partnership to scale community enterprise initiatives in Africa’s conservation landscapes. The work will begin in Rwanda’s Volcanoes landscape and Uganda’s Kidepo Valley. The partnership aims to provide opportunities for local communities to earn lasting incomes from conservation efforts.

Why it matters
The initiative is based on the conviction that conservation and economic development reinforce each other. By enabling communities to earn a decent living from the areas around protected zones, they gain a greater stake in protecting the wildlife and wild lands.
