AAIB Concludes Investigation into Ryanair Flight Incident from Pisa

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has concluded its inquiry into a serious flight incident involving a Boeing 737 that departed Pisa International Airport on a Ryanair flight. The aircraft declared a Mayday after coming within 10 minutes of running out of fuel while en route to Glasgow Prestwick Airport. The investigation found that the pilots did not consider diverting to a nearer airport, such as Newcastle, due to the stress of the situation. Furthermore, a breakdown in communications within Air Traffic Control contributed to the delay in the diversion decision.

The findings detail operational failures during the emergency, including fuel management and air traffic control communication issues. The incident involved 171 passengers and six crew members. The AAIB report sheds light on the operational limits and decision-making processes during severe aviation emergencies.
