Army Pilots AI-Enhanced Digital Maintenance for Vehicles and Weapons
What happened
The Army is digitizing maintenance processes through its Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) logistics center. This effort involves a program called Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Maintenance (AIAM), which converts roughly 7,500 maintenance training manuals into a cloud-based, AI-enhanced system. AIAM allows maintainers to troubleshoot problems, complete paperwork digitally, order parts, and find experts in one program. The program is currently in the pilot phase, having digitized between 200 and 250 manuals and tested with approximately 4,000 soldiers.

Why it matters
The modernization effort aims to provide commanders with real-time visibility into the readiness of military vehicles and weapons. By digitizing complex, manual processes, the Army seeks to speed up information flow to maintainers and streamline logistics.
Contracting activity is currently underway in the District of Columbia, involving the Army Contracting Command and defense agencies in Arlington.
