Lewis County to Remove Flood Debris from Cowlitz River with State Grant

Lewis County unanimously approved a resolution to accept $1.5 million in grant funding from the Washington state Military Department to conduct river cleanup operations. The project targets the section of the Cowlitz River passing through and between the unincorporated communities of Randle and Packwood. The funds will be used to remove debris, including two Conex storage containers, up to six recreational vehicles, and refuse left after major flooding in December of last year.

The funding is the latest installment of relief provided to the county related to severe weather and flooding that impacted Western Washington. County staff hope to complete the debris removal by the end of October, pending the successful navigation of the necessary permitting processes.
