What happened
The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine manages the National Fertiliser Database (NFD) in Ireland. Introduced in 2023, the NFD records the movement of chemical fertilisers and lime through the agricultural system. The database requires fertiliser merchants to report sales, while farmers and registered Professional Fertiliser End Users must provide annual declarations regarding the fertiliser remaining on their holding, known as the closing stock.
