EIB Supports 100M Euro Loans for Burgenland Energie Renewable Expansion
What happened
The European Investment Bank supported loans totaling 100 million euros from Landesbank Baden-Württemberg and Erste Bank. This financing is for Burgenland Energie, Austria’s largest wind and solar PV company, to expand its renewable capacity. Burgenland Energie plans to add up to 2,000 megawatts to help Burgenland achieve energy independence by 2030.
Why it matters
The project advances the REPowerEU plan and the European Union’s InvestEU programme. Burgenland Energie has already increased its energy independence from 50 percent to 75 percent in five years. This investment aims to strengthen Europe's industrial base and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
