What happened
The Kenya Kwanza administration announced key amendments to the Finance Bill 2024 during a meeting in Nairobi. President William Ruto confirmed that the changes incorporated stakeholder views during public participation. The amendments include the removal of the proposed 16 per cent VAT on bread, financial services, and foreign exchange transactions. Additionally, the 2.5 per cent Motor Vehicle Tax has been removed, and excise duty on vegetable oil has been eliminated.

The government also stated that levies on the Housing Fund and Social Health Insurance will not attract income tax, increasing disposable income for employees. The Eco Levy will only apply to imported finished products that contribute to e-waste, while locally manufactured products are exempt.
