Severe Flooding Impacts New Richland, Southern Minnesota

Southern Minnesota is recovering from heavy rain and flooding that occurred late last week and into the weekend. New Richland, in Waseca County, was among the hardest hit, with officials estimating that up to 80 percent of the community was inundated by floodwaters. The flooding was caused by six or more inches of rain that fell between Friday and Saturday. The local care center in New Richland was forced to evacuate residents due to water issues.

The severe weather event impacted multiple areas, including the City of Ellendale, which experienced over seven inches of rain accumulation. Further south and east, rainfall totals exceeded eight inches in eastern Mower County. Emergency officials in areas like Fillmore, Houston, and Southern Olmsted County had to respond to a gas leak caused by a dislodged propane tank.
