Review of 250-Megawatt Battery Array Proposal at John A. Coleman Catholic High School

Town Board members are reviewing Terra-Gen’s environmental impact statement for a proposed 250-megawatt lithium-ion battery array at the former John A. Coleman Catholic High School. The project seeks to cover 12 acres of the 15-acre property with battery containers that would draw electricity from the Central Hudson substation and return it to the grid during peak usage periods. Supervisor James Quigley stated that engineering firm LaBella Associates identified seven deficiencies requiring Terra-Gen to provide more detailed information.

The proposal involves a significant energy infrastructure project that would interact with the local power grid by storing and returning electricity. The identified deficiencies in the environmental review process could delay the project's approval and implementation.
