NPCIL Begins Groundwork on New 700 MW Nuclear Reactors at Rawatbhata Site

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India has begun groundwork for two new 700 MW nuclear reactors, designated RAPP Units 9 and 10, at the Rawatbhata site in Rajasthan. This development is part of a plan to raise installed nuclear capacity to 21.98 GW by 2031-32, up from the current 8.78 GW. Initial fuel loading commenced at RAPP-8 on September 19, following successful regulatory clearance and safety checks. RAPP-8 is anticipated to begin commercial operation during the current financial year.

The expansion utilizes Rawatbhata, which has served as a nuclear power site for over five decades. The successful commissioning of these units contributes to India's national energy goals and infrastructure goals.
