TNPCB Confirms Sun Pharma Unit Operating Within Existing Capacity

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board told the National Green Tribunal that Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.’s unit in Sathammai village, Chengalpattu district, is operating within its existing permitted production capacity and has not undertaken the proposed expansion. The Board noted that while the company obtained environmental clearance in March 2022 to increase capacity, it had not secured the Board’s consent to establish or consent to operate for that expansion.

The submission addresses an appeal challenging the environmental clearance granted for the company’s expansion. The TNPCB report confirms that the unit’s original consent was for 25.5 tonnes a month, and subsequent orders allowed changes in pollution control measures without increasing the permitted product quantity.
