TIA and JSE Launch Program to Boost SME Technology Commercialization in South Africa
What happened
The Technology Innovation Agency and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange have partnered on a 16-week program designed to boost technology commercialization for small and medium-sized enterprises in South Africa. The pilot targets 10 businesses in the health, agriculture, and fintech sectors, providing support in investment readiness, pitch development, and market access. Some of these businesses could eventually become eligible for AltX screening or private placements.

Why it matters
The partnership addresses a structural challenge facing South African tech scale-ups: the difficulty in transitioning from early-stage venture funding to the governance and audit-ready financial structures required by institutional investors. This initiative aims to close the commercialization gap in the country's innovation pipeline.
