Mint Sells Saint-Gaudens Coinage Sets as Part of Semiquincentennial Program
What happened
In 1907, Theodore Roosevelt commissioned Saint-Gaudens to redesign the $20 gold piece to elevate the artistic quality of American coinage. The original design featured exceptionally high relief, which made standard minting equipment difficult to use, leading the Mint to lower the relief later that year for mass production. The Mint is currently selling a recreation of the 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief $20 Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set.
