Odisha Transport Commissioner Orders Heightened Surveillance Amid Heavy Rains

The government of Odisha has directed regional transport officers (RTOs) to intensify surveillance measures across the state due to heavy rains and recent tragedies in the region. Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur led a video conference with RTOs to issue these instructions. Officials were ordered to operate 24x7 control rooms, increase night patrolling, and maintain strict vigilance at low bridges, culverts, and other vulnerable road sections.

The directives require officials to identify low-lying road sections, submerged crossings, and landslide-prone areas. They must secure regular road condition updates from concerned agencies and identify verified alternative routes to ensure safe movement of vehicles and passengers.
